WLAN Performance Testing and Test Flights in Kąkolewo

In connection with the Droniada competition scheduled for June 28 to July 4, 2021, co-organized by PCSS, the Center will provide a WLAN network for the competition fields. The network aims to enable real-time reporting of the competition's progress by teams and their drones. Additionally, the network will facilitate real-time telemetry transmission from the drones, allowing for the presentation of the Virtual Droniada Scene created by PCSS— a visualization of the competition's progress in a Gazebo environment. This visualization will assist the judging panel in scoring the teams. Periodically, there will also be an online broadcast of the Virtual Scene view.

Today, the network was temporarily established—access points powered by a gasoline generator were set up on one of the competition fields. In their vicinity, our drone flew, carrying a computing unit equipped with a WLAN interface. The test involved measuring the actual data throughput transmitted bidirectionally between the computing unit and a laptop placed on the ground. By closely monitoring the throughput meter readings, we detected interruptions in transmission, indicating that we were reaching the range limit.
