Robotics Academy and Droniada

The Robotics Academy is our broad initiative for an open and innovative community, promoting the achievements of digital transformation and Industry 4.0. It offers opportunities for hands-on knowledge and experience, fostering the dissemination of Industry 4.0 technologies and the development of an environment for innovators and digital technology advocates. With this mission, we aim to reach young engineers just starting their careers, as well as startup founders, researchers, and entrepreneurs from various industries who are open to digital transformation and Industry 4.0 technologies, alongside a wider circle of consumers.

In this spirit, the idea of Droniada was born – a technology competition for young academic teams developing and testing algorithms for the operation of robots and autonomous vehicles, whether on land, in the air, on water, or underwater. Essentially, it is a proving ground for unmanned systems, where students, young engineers, scientists, designers, and entrepreneurs meet on one side, and firefighters, military personnel, public service workers, local government officials, and central government representatives on the other. They are all united by their belief in the potential of new teleinformatics technologies, embodied by drones.  studenci, młodzi inżynierowie, naukowcy, konstruktorzy, przedsiębiorcy, zaś z drugiej strony – strażacy, wojskowi, służby, samorządowcy i przedstawiciele administracji centralnej. Łączy ich wszystkich wiara w możliwości nowych technologii teleinformatycznych, których ucieleśnieniem są drony.

Droniada serves as a breeding ground for Industry 4.0 talent and offers companies a chance to showcase their solutions – both to young engineers and to representatives from academia, R&D institutions, local governments, the agricultural and food sectors, crisis management, and critical infrastructure protection. The competition and its accompanying workshops provide an opportunity to build relationships with clients. It’s the place to recruit employees and find partners for collaborative projects.

Since 2014, Droniada has annually allowed participants to demonstrate their competencies in Industry 4.0 technologies, with a particular focus on drones, teleinformatics, and information analysis systems. Collaboration with the Poznań Supercomputing and Networking Center (PSNC) has made this technology competition a part of the Robotics Academy, a community dedicated to promoting the achievements of digital transformation and Industry 4.0. The 2021 edition was held for the first time in Greater Poland, at the Kąkolewo airport – a place that represents a new dimension of airspace, education, and scientific research for those involved in building knowledge, skills, and experience in Aviation 4.0.
