Demonstration within the GOF 2.0 Project

On September 29, 2021, a demonstration was held at the Kąkolewo Airport as part of the GOF 2.0. Integrated Urban Airspace Validationresearch project. The event featured multiple concurrent missions using Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) in a simulated urban environment, conducted by Polish and international operator teams.

The GOF 2.0 project is a continuation of the SESAR JU Gulf of Finland (GOF) U-space project, which successfully demonstrated the safe integration of UAVs into airspace during the summer of 2019. The current project takes this a step further, aiming to test drone flights in urban airspace over the next two years. Launched in January of this year, the program is being implemented by a consortium of 13 members under the SESAR JU initiative "GOF 2.0 Integrated Urban Airspace Validation," with the involvement of PCSS.

The event was attended by international and domestic consortium partners with their flying platforms. Additionally, a delegation from the Air Force Institute of Technology participated with its own aerial platform, along with an aircraft from the Poznań Aeroclubrepresenting a helicopter from the Air Ambulance Service. The helicopter's entry into the operational zone required tactical deconfliction with drone missions.

The missions conducted at Kąkolewo Airport represented scenarios anticipated for operational deployment in cities during this and the next decade: cargo transport, high- and low-altitude observation, area and building mapping, and autonomous passenger transport. The goal of the project and its tests is to validate operational procedures in practice and, based on these results, to develop multi-level recommendations for standardization bodies.
